Hey Jack,

it should mount writable by default if possible, so it is probably bug if it works elsewhere. However you are 
using already unmaintained Fedora 17, please upgrade your system and try it again with current release. If 
you see this problem with current Fedora, please file the bug on bugzilla.gnome.org.
