Why not package this as a plugin?
Does you search use SPAQL/tracker or does it hit the filesystem
directly?
I have already sent a mail at nautilus list: nautilus-list gnome org
but without success.
I think you will have better luck reaching developers by either (a)
filing a bug in GNOME's bugzilla and/or (b) using IRC.
