I cannot tell whether compact view is going to come back in some form or not, but if you are interested, you may want to follow to this report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695027

Also, if you keep using nautilus and are find specific issues, with icon view or list view, that particularly frustrates you and makes you wish for compact view back, please keep the feedback coming. :)
