Folder icon via mime type?

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post, but it seems to be relevant.

Just wondering if folders with specific extensions (yes, I know it sounds ridiculous) can be given custom icons via mime types or similar?

I've been playing with a custom mime definition in ~/.local/share/mime/packages but it seems to only apply to files, not folders.

Thoughts?
