As nobody else answered, I'd like to point out that Nautilus doesn't
immediately fork away if it's not already running in the background.
You could try to make sure that Nautilus is not restarted by the
session (see other thread,
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list
and /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/filemanager), then quit
Nautilus (nautilus -q). When started again now, Nautilus should not
fork away.
