Nevertheless would that be possible to do with gnomevfs instead of gvfs somehow? In particular, I'm still hacking with the time bar idea I posted a while ago for the backup application, and I'd need to do exactly the same....
(we'd rather do it with gnomevfs than gvfs basically for it being more documented, as there are quite good "for dummies" tutorials).

This shouldn't be needed once file change notification is added to the burn://
