Patch: wider name column in list view

Paul Betts has posted a patch to partly fix the problem with the
too-narrow (and not resizing with the window) name columns in list
views. I guess this would make the problem less annoying in the short
term:

I guess we still need a patch to actually persist the column sizes after
the user has resized them manually.

(I'm posting this because I think you still prefer to review patches on
the mailing list.)
