Filter idea

Hi, here is my idea.

When I'm in a window in somewhere like "/users/me/documents" for example. And I want one document, I type the name and the file will be market, if it exist. But in this folder have lot of different extensions, in the window I can't filter only ones I want, like in the terminal I can do using "ls *.odd".
So the question is, why don't put it in graphic mode. I think it is easy, because when we are in a window and type some letters appears above the window what we are typing, so we can put something like ls *.odd to filter what I want see.
