I've have also this bug on GNOME 2.10 + GTK+ 2.8. I've added more
informations on bugzilla.
Of course, it would be best to fix the issue in radeon driver (since it
might affect other applications as well) but in the mean time, it is
still best to have a responsive desktop (otherwise, you really get the
impression GNOME has become really slow).
