Yes, thanks, that's the problem. I had previously added
  <item>/usr/lib/bonobo/servers</item>
in
  /opt/gnome26/etc/bonobo-activation/bonobo-activation-config.xml
so that I could use evolution 1.4 with gnome 2.6.

But doing that seems to remove the default as well, so I had to add 
 <item>/opt/gnome26/lib/bonobo/servers</item>
as well.

I'm not sure whether the order matters, but I put the /usr/lib one at
the end.
