I guess all people reporting the crash originating in
gnome_vfs_shutdown() had the show_desktop flag unset (see bug #121771).
Then startup & shutdown is the same thing as far as users are concerned.
If you look at the dups, many reporters state that running from the
command-line works fine (because Nautilus doesn't immediately shutdown
then, but opens a window). If they added --no-default-window or -q to
their command-line, they would have crashed again.
