Normal Red Hat 8 install using bash:

$ pwd
/
$ ls -l gnome
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           16 Jul 18 21:32 gnome -> /mnt/hdb2/gnome/
$ cd gnome
$ pwd
/gnome
$ cd ..
$ pwd
/
