GTK+ does use shift+control for link.
"Alt" in GTK+ is "ask" (since right drag has innumerable problems) but
unfortunately, the window managers commonly in use with GNOME bind
Alt-Drag to move-window.
(Middle drag is also supposed to be "ask", but not all mice have middle buttons.)
