Ok - if you can explain why GConf is not returning the default key, and
the schema is not installed properly - then you'll know why you're not
getting any menu icons :-)
To enable it use gconf-editor, it's in gnome/interface or somesuch. The
thing is on my system I regularly loose either schemas or their
defaults, or somesuch, there is even a vague open bug about it, but the
problem is catching GConf throwing away whole trees of settings is quite
hard ;-) indeed it may even not be a bug, I don't see it enough to swear
it isn't mis-configuration of something.
