I like this idea but perhaps an easier way to implement this for now
would be to clean up the start-here: virtual directory to be more like
My Computers under windows. Here we could have links to Network,
Configure, Devices, root and home directories. Network would further be
seperated into NFS, Appletalk, SMB etc. which would automagicly bring us
to the correct browser. The devices directory would have links(in the
future) to any interactive device connected to the computer(handheld,
camera, removable media, etc.). This can all (sans devices) be handled
by links. The only problem with this is that Nautilus does not handle
the up arrow correctly outside of the physical directory stucture. I
only found out about start-here from my Mandrake install. Ximian does
not place a link to it on the desktop. Theoreticly hitting the up arrow
when in the root directory (or perhaps when a user exits his/her home
directory, though this would annoy experienced Unix users)should bring
me to the start-here: directory. Just my 2 cents.
