I don't think the reasoning was sound. Basically Alan filed a bug
saying we should avoid thumbnailing over NFS (I believe the issue is
to avoid reading the images, not to avoid writing the thumbnails).
But I would guess that in most NFS setups it's best to do the
thumbnailing.
