I think the main added feature is the authentication dialogs for
gnome-vfs backends like Samba. 

The icon loading code has been fixed to do a lot less stats, so
some aspects of performance have definitely been improved.

Desktop file reading is done in a considerably different way, but
I'm not sure if the qualitative result is better or worse from
this as compared to the Red Hat branch.

(All of this from memory, Alex would know better, but he's still
off on vacation in Sweden.)
