I haven't been keeping up too much with this thread, but I did have
one question, which may have already been answered.  Who actually
downloads executable files from the net or in attachments to emails?
I've been using Linux for about 3 1/2 years and I can't recall a
single time where I have downloaded or received an executable file.
Programs tend to be made available in tar.gz and packages like rpm or
deb.

Am I missing something?
