Shakeing the pointer to get rid of the drag and drop seems to me to be
a good idea.

Also any action that isn't allowed should cancel the operation, like
pushing any key or any additional mouse button.

Dragging to the edge of the screen can be missinterpreted as "get rid
of this" or "trash it".

Dragging to the edge of the screen can interfer with drop-zones close
to the edge but this can be avoided by defining a rule "no other drop
zone within 2-3 pixels of the edge.

Edge-flipping could get a slightly larger timeout than normal (if it
is small) so it would still be available but would not interfer with
dropping on the edge.

Dropping things into void space as a means to get rid of drag and drop
is no good. A maksimized borderless application can be without any such
space.
