It only makes sense for Galeon and Nautilus to unify the interface more. There are a lot of little things that galeon and nautilus share in functionality but differ in appearance. Take the zoom control in galeon and in nautilus. Both share the same purpose but they look completely different. There is no need in this. The two windows already look similar if not the same at first glance. Having the UI different only serves to confuse people and break consistency. Is there some way the two teams can come together in forming some common UI component and have that component loaded via gnome from the very start. This should decrease start up times, bring unification to the two UIs, and decrease the amount of memory used when both apps are running. The icons/theme/skin of the two should be the same too. Ex. text/icon placement, icons themselves( I personally think aquatic should be the default icon set), etc... It would also be nice if nautilus could mimic other features of galeon like tabs. To a new user, it wouldn't make sense that you could do tab browsing over the internet with the web browser but not the file browser. Below is a screenshot of the two windows looking as similar as I could make them but you can tell what could be changed to make them look better side by side.
