The white flash at login is something we'd like to fix some day
<http://bugzilla.eazel.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2185>. But we can't simply copy
what gmc does to fix the bug, because we support anti-aliasing between the
icons and the desktop background to make desktop icons look good. The gmc
approach of using a separate X window for each icon does not allow
anti-aliasing between the icons and the background, but the single X window
for the background does.
