Then change the sidebar to be an horizontal pane at the top
or bottom of the main window. It still amaze me that people
can agree that 16/9 screens are better than 4/3 for humans,
and come up then with such monstruosities as a narrow
vertical sidebar. People who use the tree view tend to do so
continuously. And all other views would be better of in a
dedicated horizontal pane : search, history items (they
often have long names, especially in web views), etc. So
leave the curent sidebar for tree view, and move everything
else to the horizontal pane they need.
Having a sidebar whose size people continuously have to
adapt to very different views is madness. Users hate it, be
it in windows or Nautilus.
