Another suggestion:

Detect when an MP3 player has been attached to
a machine and then display a player icon on the
desktop.  Then, songs from CDs or MP3 files could
be dropped onto the player.

Ideally, dragging a song from a CD would cause
the song to pipe through the CD ripper/MP3 
encoding phases transparently to the user.

Lastly, players that support multiple data formats
should have a default setting or prompt the user
for a format selection when an song gets dropped
onto their desktop icons.
