MAPOS 2008

Hi all,

I'll be speaking at Mobile Application Platforms in Open Source, a
conference run by the people behind OSiM World, on the 9th of December.

I'm going to present GNOME Mobile, what it is, where we stand right now
- including the various platforms which are built on top of GNOME Mobile
technologies - and present my vision of where we need to go.

None of what I'll say will be surprising to people who are here - I
think that we need to create an identity for GNOME Mobile as a common
piece of platforms like Maemo, LiMo, Poky, ALP, ... with all of the
companies invested in those platforms also invested in GNOME Mobile
technologies, working together to ensure the availability of a
high-quality raw material for their end-user products.

So I will be encouraging attendees to share their evaluations of the
GNOME platform, centralise their remarks and criticisms here, and turn
the GNOME Mobile workgroup into a lens where we concentrate diverse
efforts into improving the GNOME platform for mobile applications. I'll
be asking individuals building products on GNOME Mobile to invest in the
platform in a public and collaborative way, and I'll be asking community
members present to open up the processes of their community, to allow
newcomers to easily see the path to becoming a core member of the team.

Informa have agreed to give a 15% reduction in registration price to
GNOME Mobile members, as a participating organisation.

Cheers,
Dave.
