Contributions Summary:
I am an existing GNOME Foundation member seeking renewal. Over the past two years I have given talks at LAS
2018 (https://las.gnome.org/conferences/LAS/program/proposals/13,
https://las.gnome.org/conferences/LAS/program/proposals/14), LAS 2019 (https://youtu.be/YQBuFm4gx7s), and
GUADEC 2019 (https://youtu.be/gi_3b81eBUE). I have also helped initiate GNOME and FreeDesktop-wide
discussions about dark style preferences
(https://blog.elementary.io/the-need-for-a-freedesktop-dark-style-preference/) by documenting existing
platforms and conducting a user study (https://blog.elementary.io/user-interface-study-findings/). I also
helped initiate and steer vendor styling and theming API discussions. At elementary, I have continued to use
and provide feedback to GNOME technologies, including writing a GTK and WebKitGTK based web browser
(https://github.com/cassidyjames/ephemeral/) and documenting and driving the effort to fix dark style support
in WebKitGTK and Epiphany (https://cassidy
james.com/dark-demo/). I also attended the GNOME Parental Control and Metered Data hackfest
(https://blog.elementary.io/parental-controls-metered-data-hackfest/), sharing our existing work from
elementary and helping to shape the feature for GNOME upstream.
Over the coming years I plan to help formalize a FreeDesktop dark style preference specification, help design
and build a new Flatpak administration and submission back-end for elementary AppCenter and Flathub, and help
elementary move to a completely Flatpak based desktop that is more intercompatible with GNOME apps.
