Full Name: Beth Hadley
Email: bhadley AT mit.edu

Contributions Summary:
This summer I participated in the Google Summer of Code program through GNOME. I dedicated my summer to
developing music based activities for GCompris, a software suite built on GNOME for children ages 2-10.
GCompris previously had very few music related activities, and my work greatly enriched the offerings. The
full description of my contributions this summer can be found here:
https://live.gnome.org/SummerOfCode2012/Projects/BethHadley_GCompris_Music

I attended GUADEC 2012 where I enjoyed meeting the GNOME community in person. I loved talking to all the
members, many of whom had read about my work on Planet GNOME and offered helpful suggestions, compliments,
and feedback. I was especially impressed that Federico Mena Quintero was particularly intrigued with my work.
He told me that he has a daughter in school who uses GCompris, and she just started piano lesson so he is
extremely excited for her to play my music activities. On his recent blog, posted August 13, 2012 to the
Planet, he writes âMy favorite project by an intern this year is Beth Hadley's music activity for GCompris.
My four-year old daughter just started piano lessons, so this is would be perfect for her!â

After this summer, I intend to continue to remain active in the GNOME community. I have already discovered
new projects in GNOME Iâd like to work on, and I look forward to attending the Boston Summit for many years
to come (I go to school in Boston!)

My mentor, Bruno Coudoin (bruno coudoin gcompris net), is not a GNOME Foundation member (he should be, Iâve
asked him to apply), but he is the most familiar with my work this summer. The GNOME Foundation members most
familiar with my work include Federico Mena (federico gnome org ), Daniel Siegel (dgsiegel gnome org ) and
Marina Zhurakhinskaya (marinaz redhat com)

Foundation Previous Participation:
This is my first time applying for foundation membership.
