Re: [gnome.org #11706] GNOME Membership Application of Mario Sanchez Prada

From: "Christer Edwards via RT" <membership-applications gnome org>

Dear Alejandro, Claudio, Diego, GermÃn and Joanmarie,

The GNOME Membership Committee is about to process Mario Sanchez Prada's
application to become a GNOME Foundation Member and therefore we would
like to receive some feedback about him and his GNOME-related work.
(past and present contributions are usually fine)

Please remember that vouching for a contributor means you really think
he deserves to be a Foundation Member and that you trust him and his
work for the global GNOME community. If unsure about vouching or not,
please let us know why you don't feel enough comfortable in advocating
this applicant.

For further details about the applicant, feel free to have a look at his
application at the following link:

Dear Christer and membership committee,

Mario Sanchez Prada has a full commitment with GNOME. I had the
chance to met him as a student on the Computer Science Faculty of
CoruÃa, and I'm right now in direct contact with him, as we work in
the same office at Igalia. During all these years, he has been
increasing his involvement with GNOME community.

As most of the GNOME community, he started as a GNOME user in his
personal computer.

One of his first GNOME involvement as a coder in the development of
Fisterra, which is a framework to develop business applications for
GNOME, which started to be developed by Igalia around the beginning of
the current millennium.

He also has been involved on Mobile platforms, in particular, Maemo.

And during the last year he has been working on the accessibility
support for WebKitGTK+. This means that he is involved on two of the
keys of the future and present of GNOME (accessibility, one of the
defining words for GNOME [2]) and WebKitGTK [3], the tool to became a
reality of "the web is the future" meme on the last GUADEC(s).

As you can see on this bug [1], there was defined a lot of bugs
blocking the Orca support for WebKitGTK, and there are also lot of
bugs solved. A lot of them were solved by Mario, meaning a significant
improvement of the accessibility support for WebkitGTK+. For example,
so right now, in some aspects, the interaction of Epiphany+Orca is
better (performance) than the iteraction of Firefox+Orca.

And of course there are other contributions (already mentioned by
Mario, so I will not repeat them).

I am pretty confident with the commitment of Mario with GNOME project,
and the role he has advocating our platform.

That said, I endorse his application.
