Thanks.  I got another error after using the Git version, but it was fixed by the patch in bug 691738, so I'm up and running now.

The current Git version of Meld has a significant overhaul of the
Subversion handling code that should fix these kinds of bugs. If you
can reproduce this problem with current git HEAD however, I really
want to know about it!
