It doesn't work in OpenBSD 5.2 with mc (in OpenBSD ports), I get
Cannot chdir to "/#ftp:user ip"
No such file or directory (2)

So I downloaded the latest stable source and that gives the same

I haven't tried under OpenBSD 5.2 yet but I will.

Please try to run command:
cd ftp://user ip

That works, although it seems possibly slower at connecting but I've
only tried it once so far. did work but I couldn't get it to
find slang and ncurses didn't work very well.
