Was this ever the case?! Dots come first alphabetically and I don't
remember any special processing in the code e.g. to strip them.
If you just want to mix files and directories, then "Mix all files" is
the option that you are looking for.

Yes it was the case, "Mix all files" have i selected but see the
difference.
Two screenshot's made, first one made with the 'old' mc(4.7.0) sort
order on my server, http://i.imgur.com/xXL9E.png
Second one made with the 'new' mc(4.8.1) sort order on my desktop
through a ssh connection to my server, http://i.imgur.com/27Sv1.png
Sort order is changed.
