hi!

i have exactly the same problem as below, which according to the archives
and bug tracking site has never been answered/addressed, although i see it
happening with everyone and it renders mc virtually unusable for more than
a single ftp request.. :(

Greetings,

Symptoms
When the ftp session times out, mc reports:
ftpfs: failed; nowhere to fallback to

and then it cannot establish an ftp connection to any
server. Quitting and restaring mc is required.

Recommendation
mc should be able to re-establish an FTP session after
being timed out.

With subshell support: as default
with mouse support on xterm and the Linux console.
Using locale "en_US" (from environment variable LANG)

Regards,
