Meta key in cygwin

Hi all,

when using Windows, I appreciate having my MC nearby (via cygwin).  
However I don't get the "meta" key functionality from my left-of-space 
Alt key that I should.

When using other X-applications, this is not a problem (emacs, for 
example).  It seems to be particular to MC.

How can I achieve that functionality?
