Re: MC vs. X.org X11.

      Hello,

Recently my Fedora Core 2 box came down with an issue what in my
opinion has roots in X.org X11 implementation, but Fedora developers are
blaming MC:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=125698

Namely there is no way to use MC on remote host - it will crash out with
"X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 38 (X_QueryPointer)"
Strange, I can not reproduce this bug, did you upgrade your system?
What versions of kde/mc/xorg do you have? I tryed FC2 -> FC2, FC1 -> FC2
FC1 -> RH9 -> FC2 and some other combinations, but never got this error.
I remember mc was not working at all with FC2-t2 or so... One of my FC2
machines was fully updated till today, the other was not.

Fedora Core developers are ignoring the fact that other applications
throw the very same error and the MC on the other end of SSH link is
being run under Fedora Core 1/RedHat Linux 9 what have never had this
issue (if these are faulty then why it is revealing itself now, not
before?).
Sometimes they really can not react as fast as we would like to...,
I waited more than 3 months for a simple problem I had the fix for - 2
lines in one cron job - updatedb.

I would like to get some input from MC developers as I have feeling that
my arguments are not enough to convince them.
I'm not an mc developer, but I fear I can't live without mc :)

Ivo Sarak.

Can you also describe your localization? I'm from Bulgaria, but I
use LANG='en_EN.UTF-8'. I ask because this can be the long-standing
problem with UTF8 support so please try to reproduce the problem with
http://www.ottolander.nl/opensource/srpms/fc1/mc-4.6.0-14.10n.src.rpm
(download it, rpmbuild --rebuild mc-4.6.0-14.10n.src.rpm... ask if you
need help on this, I will compile it for you).
