subshell problems

A question:
Let's change to subdirectory `.antiword' from the `/home/sx0005'
directory in the panel. Then pressing C-o, then the up-arrow key to
see the previous command issued on the subshell, I get
cd "`echo -e '\057home\057sx\060\060\060\065\057\056antiword'`"
Is there a possibility to remove those commands from the subshell's
history? For example, if I switch between the current and the parent
directory a few times, I have many such commands in the subshell's
history which is quite annoying.
