Hi Urban,
I know a solution: ask your sysadmin to upgrade to
a newer verson fo AIX :)
The binaries which you are trying to use work on
4.3.3, 5.1, 5.2.
I helped one guy to run older build of mc
on 4.2. AFAIR the solution was to add location of libc.a to
LIBPATH, but I am not sure. I will have to dig my very old email archive for the
answer.
Keep me posted.

Subject: Binaries for AIX 4.1
Hi! I can't run the Binaries for 4.6.0 our AIX 4.1
I get following error: exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program ./mc because of
the following errors: 0509-023 Symbol
stpcpy in mc is not defined. 0509-023
Symbol strsignal in mc is not defined. 0509-023 Symbol getmntent in mc is not defined. 0509-023 Symbol endmntent in mc is not defined.
0509-023 Symbol setmntent in mc is not
defined. 0509-023 Symbol
__malloc_user_defined_name in mc is not defined. 0509-026 System error: Cannot run a file that does not
have a valid format.
I suspect
that we have to recompile the source on 4.1!! and we don't have a own compiler. Can someone help me to recompile for my platform?
Best regards
Urban
