Details:
Try this
-Take a line which starts at the left margin. Press Tab.
-Go back to the margin with cursor left(notice the ASCII code,
0x20, which is confusing, as moving one position with the
cursor jumps 4 columns)
-Press Tab again. Now you have 2 'magic spaces', each 4 columns
wide (0x20's).
On another line, Tab twice at the beginning without going back.
Go back now and you have a real Tab (0x09)! Strange...
Also, with the 'magic spaces', there is no way I can delete
just one column (one space of the 4), which is very
uncomfortable.
Admittedly, the real tab is marked with '<' at the beginning
of the line. I believe it's the 'magic space' that should be
marked as abnormal, not the Tab. Why not simply change the
background color of spaces (particularly begin-of-line spaces)?
But these (obscure) features are what motivate
me to stick with my external JOE.
John
