This bug is supposed to be fixed in CVS and the latest prerelease. See bug
#15524. You can either checkout from CVS or 
fetch the latest prerelease from
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/mc/mc-4.6.2-pre1.tar.gz and build that yourself. Please,
let us know 
whether it fixes the hang for you.
