fish server ?

Hello everyone,

in section 17.3 of the mc manual 
(http://canvas.gnome.org:65348/mc/manual-i.html#4) a fish server is mentioned.

I would like to share files with some friends in a secure way, but I don't 
want to give them shell access on my machine. Can someone give me more 
information or pointers to the fish protocol and about this fish server, 
please.

I tried to find something on the net, but failed.
