How about a "look how far we've come" piece, very brief, could be done
with pictures e.g. a screenshot of GNOME 1.0, 1.4, 2.0, 2.32, and the
latest build of 3.6 (or go with 3.4, if we want to keep it to
releases)?

That might be a nice visual retrospective.
