I was reading roozbeh's post:

and the 3rd paragraph is of interest to me considering our recent 
turmoil in d-d-l.  Do we really have a problem here?  We should be
honest with ourselves about our weaknesses otherwise we'll never be
able to fix it.

While I'm happy that Free Software desktops are getting a foothold on
things, I'd still like to see GNOME on the ascendency when it comes to
desktops. :-)

We frequently say 'we can do it if a volunteer will step up to
do it'.  We seem to have a lack of of volunteers we trust.  Otherwise
we too can get feature requests (when they make sense) put in.

Taking it further...

When I look around me for the past two years I do not
see a lot of new people joining the ranks of developers working
on projects.  Is my impression wrong?  Or perhaps I'm just not
hanging out in the right lists.  I'd like someone to either correct
my impression if they are wrong.

This worries me as the core hackers are starting to get more busy
with other things that makes it harder for them to participate as
much as they used to.   That said, it's not a huge concern because
core pieces of the desktop have started migrating to fd.o anyways.

We should spend some effort in trying to recruit more people.
Stuff like what happened this past week makes it harder.  The problem
occurs in the fact that the pool of people we draw from are the
same people we tend to have conflicts with because they want a
technical desktop.

I'm looking to see if what I'm thinking is really a concern or just
arm chair musings that'll get me in trouble. :-)
