The answer to that question is not really important.  One could just as
usefully ask "If GNOME was a car", "If GNOME was an alcoholic drink"
etc.  What matters is the attributes that people mention.

Whatever, not a girl or guy.  There is a reason why all the logos you
mention are not people: you have to choose a sex, and risk alienating
the other one.

Thanks for floating this idea.  Personally, I think that a logo plus a
mascot is overkill, but others may differ on this one.
