OK, there still seem to be some problems with the meson build such as

Instead of making a quick release just to discover there's yet another problem, I'll wait for 1-2 weeks so hopefully all the build-related issues get reported and fixed and make a new release then.

so yeah, I of course made a last minute change before releasing 0.12.17 and screwed up the library version string for the meson build. Thanks to Kalev Lember for noticing this. This release should fix that. The tarball should be at the usual place here
