It doesn't bother but I might not reply. I don't have much time for Kupfer atm.
I have the same kind of background of course, and in Kupfer I have
tried to implement many of the crazy or useful possibilities of
Quicksilver. It will never be the same religious or holistic
experience (and no surprises since I'm writing it myself), but I
already think the important things are in place.
By single-key activation, if you mean Quicksilver's "modifier-only"
activation then it's possible but is not allowed to configure Kupfer
that way using prefs dialog.
Open (when Kupfer is not running) ~/.config/kupfer/kupfer.cfg
and make sure the Kupfer section looks like this in the file:
[Kupfer]
keybinding = Alt_L
This way only Left alt is used to show/hide kupfer (on macs, both
Option keys are called Alt_L). Notice the difference between Alt as a
modifier in <Alt>X and Alt the key as Alt_L. The format here uses
GTK's key names.
If you (maybe) by single-key activation mean that you can press and
hold a key to start the first object of that letter, then it's
implemented in Kupfer but works or doesn't depending on the GTK
version or configuration (this is something I have not figured out).
