You're right, it's not actually a very good example for illustrating
color blindness issues. The current stock ticker applet actually causes
more problems for people who need a high contrast between the background
and foreground.
Can you point us at any parts of the GNOME UI, or any other UI, that you
do (or would) have problems with? That would help us come up with some
better examples...
