which require more time than hitting shift/control insert or
shift-delete. Also, I'm not aware of any programs that conflict with
these keybindings. On the contrary, most programs use them as
copy/cut/paste themselves, so Gnome would be the odd one out here.
I really don't see anything wrong with using those keybindings.

+------- Additional Comments From calum benson ireland sun com 2002-02-20 07:53 -------
+To quote from the Windows (98 and 2000) styleguide:
+
+"The system supports shortcut assignments available in earlier
+versions of Microsoft Windows (Alt+Backspace, Shift+Insert,
+Ctrl+Insert, Shift+Delete). You should consider supporting them
+(though not documenting them) to support the transition of users."
+
+Given that they've been deprecated in Windows in this way since Win98,
+I don't personally see a lot of point of going out of our way to
+implement them in GNOME. Presumably an expert user could change the
+keybindings from Ctrl+X/V to Shift-Ins/Del themselves using the
+standard gtk dynamic menu keybindings feature if they so desired, or
+perhaps it could also be done using gtk's new keyboard theming
+mechanism?
