TortoiseHg + GVFS/SFTP Aborts

I'm trying to use TortoiseHg to manage a repo that I access over GVFS
(via SFTP).   I can navigate and edit files in Nautilus and Geany with
no issues - works great.  But thg is brutally show and attempting to
commit fails.

% hg commit --repository /home/awilliam/.gvfs/SFTP for adam on
yannigan-orange.mormail.com/srv/www/vhosts/adam/iv5 --verbose --user
awilliam whitemice org --message=Added some
whitespace /home/awilliam/.gvfs/SFTP for adam on
yannigan-orange.mormail.com/srv/www/vhosts/adam/iv5/js/IV5.js
js/IV5.js
trouble committing js/IV5.js!

Is there any way to trouble shoot this or is it a known does-not-work?
