Hi,
When a WebDAV folder is mounted within the .gvfs folder it is not
possible to append/write to a file. Is this a bug?
This is apparent when mounting a remote server using Nautilus and then
using the .gvfs folder. I have not tried mounting manually.
The effect is most noticeable when trying to open a LibreOffice /
OpenOffice file. When double-clicking a file in (for example) Nautilus,
LibreOffice cannot open the file (because it cannot write to it or
create new files) and instead shows the error "General input/output
error while accessing ..."
There are several reports on the web of the above problem, most
attributed to LibreOffice, but on further investigation this appears to
be a problem with the .gvfs folder, and it's just that LibreOffice is a
minority application that uses this directly.
To repeat:
1. Connect to a WebDAV server using GVFS
2. Use a terminal to browse to the mounted folder in .gvfs
3. Attempt to edit a text file
It appears that directory writes are possible: I can move files and
create new files, but not append to or write to a file. Permissions on
the files are correct.
I have tried in Linux Mint 10 and 12.
Andy
