gvfs - disk SDA keeps spinning up every 30 minutes (NEWBIE ALERT!!!)

Esteemed List Participants and Lurkers:
=======================================
Linux Mint 8 Gnome (Helena) LiveCD running on 2 GB SD Card (LOCKED)

I'm experimenting, reasonably successfully so far, with running Linux Mint LiveCD as a secure web activity system. With the system running READ ONLY, there is no storage at all to be infected by viruses ... IF I spin down the hard drive. That is an easy task with:

> sudo hdparm -y /dev/sda

However, every 30 minutes, the drive spins back up again. I think this is caused by the "gvfs-fuse-daemon" process, but I can't find any understandable information on configuring it.

I posted to the Linux Mint forum, but have never gotten a response to my post <http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=48643>. It has more details about the problem and the processes that are running if you care to look at it. I have a lot of computer experience, but I just don't have the limitless hours it takes to wander through the Linux Aps jungle. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start towards my goal of disabling (via software for the entire session) my SDA hard drive?

Thank you for any and all comments, suggestions, and assistance.
Blessings in abundance, all the best, and ENJOY!
