Building Guppi snapshots on Mandrake

I've gotten a report of being unable to build the guppi snapshots w/
python support under Mandrake 6.1.  The guppi app fails to link with:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot open -lnet: No such file or directory

Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Has anyone successfully
built one of the recent guppi snapshots under Mandrake?

Besides this, most of the build problems seem to have been sorted out:
most were simply due to guppi's configure not being strict enough in
checking for recent enough libraries.

I'm taking a bit of time to clear up a number of small annoyances (the
"colinear" debug spew, truncated axis labels, the ability to drag pie
chart slices "off the page", etc.) before making the official release.

Now the release really is imminent.  It will come out any day now.  I
mean it this time.  Trust me. :-)
