I'd suggest you then to open a bug in bugzilla.gnome.org and

create the patch with git format-patch and attach it to the bug.

Application gucharmap has this behaviour implemented. It is implemented
on application level, not library. I don't know when and by it has been
implemented.

I can try to write function for store/fetch recent char to gucharmap
library, but this solution create dependence gtranslator on this new
devel library version. May be better use sent patch, create patch for
gucharmap library, wait for stable release and change implementation in
gtranslator.
